Portuguese Language Classes Starting January 14, 2018

Dr. Duarte Pinheiro, who has been our instructor since 2015, will continue in that role. Professor Pinheiro, a native of northern Portugal, also teaches in the Portuguese program at UC Berkeley.

About the Classes
We are offering two classes on Sundays:
- Beginning Class: "Elementary, my Dear Portugal"
4:00 – 5:30PM
- Intermediate/Advanced Class: "Historic Portugal"
5:30 – 7:00PM
Parking: Ample free parking available on Sundays
Fees: Tuition for the classes for adults will remain unchanged at $225 + cost of class materials. Students under 18 years old will receive a 50% discount.
Note: NO CLASSES on January 28th
Class Structure: Classes are taught in a friendly, fun environment where you'll also explore historical and cultural aspects of Portugal. Formal grammar and useful vocabulary are covered, and after completing the course, you'll be skilled enough to order at a restaurant, ask for directions, have basic or more advanced (intermediate / advanced students) conversations about day-to-day subject matters, etc. And one of the best part of attending: meeting great people and making new friends!
Instructor: Dr. Duarte Pinheiro, a native (northern Portugal) speaker who earned his BA and MA at the University of Coimbra, and his PhD at Fernando Pessoa University, is the instructor. Dr. Pinheiro has taught Portuguese language, literature and history throughout his career, including teaching for several years in Italy at two Universities before moving to the United States. He is a Camões Institute lecturer and currently teaches Portuguese at UC Berkeley and San Jose State and is the Assistant Director and Coordinator of the Portuguese Studies Program at UC Berkeley.
